Prologis will build a 26,000 square meter distribution center in Waalwijk, in the south of the Netherlands. The design consists of two units of which 14,000 square meters is already leased to Tarkett, an international provider of flooring solutions. The remaining 12,000 square meters will be built for the open market. Accompanied by festivity, the first pile was driven on 26 September 2019.
Sustainable Architecture
The building, DC3, will be located at Prologis Park Waalwijk and delivery is expected by mid-2020. The modern premises will acquire sustainability ratings, such as BREEAM “Very Good” accreditation and WELL Building certification. With this new development, Prologis’ portfolio in Waalwijk comprises 100,000 square meters.
Collaboration
Prologis is developing a state-of-the-art distribution center in Waalwijk for Tarkett, a supplier of flooring solutions. Tarkett will lease 14,000 square meters of the new premises. Michiel van Trijen, supply chain manager EMEA of Tarkett says, "We welcome further expansion at this logistics hotspot as it ensures that we can continue to supply our customers. The sustainability characteristics and professional approach of Prologis match well with Tarkett's philosophy."
In Waalwijk, Prologis works closely with the local authorities where a fruitful long-term relationship has been established. "As a municipality, we have been investing for years in our attractiveness as a logistics hotspot. We regard Prologis as a partner in this ambition, and we are pleased to reaffirm our strong relationship by once again developing a modern warehouse together," explains alderman Ronald Bakker of the municipality of Waalwijk.
Master Plan
Prologis is proud of this new development and welcomes Tarkett as a customer. VP head of developments Prologis Benelux, Gina Helmold states, "Tarkett is an international player, but for us also a new customer to move into this logistics hotspot. The A59 motorway, shipping terminals and the proximity of major hubs, such as Antwerp and Rotterdam, make Waalwijk a popular location for a business establishment. Here, too, we want to offer our customers flexible growth opportunities. After DC2 and DC4, we now also have DC3, where we can offer customers extra space in 2020. And there are opportunities for even more growth because we can develop up to 210,000 square meters in Waalwijk. The new development is part of a master plan we have developed specially for the area."
